Steering Committees
The Steering Committees are composed of concerned citizens who
will be responsible for disseminating and supporting the goals and
objectives of Consent of the Governed; and be part of a national
network of best ideas and practices. Each Steering Committee will be
responsible to adhere to the requirements outlined in the Charter
set forth by Consent of the Governed.
Developing a Steering Committee
Members soon realize that their agenda is not their everyday
venture. Therefore, the preparation for its leadership must take
this fact into account and adhere very closely to the following
preparatory steps.
- BE PREPARED
Steering Committee members must be informed and ready to defend
the Consent of the Governed agenda. This process begins with
thoroughly familiarizing themselves with the contents listed in
A Citizens Report to President Barack Obama. Additional
available materials are to be considered supplemental to the
Report.
- CORE GROUP
Initially, a group of 6-8 concerned citizens will convene as a
Steering Committee to discuss the best methods of advancing the
Consent of the Governed agenda in their city.
- METHODS OF RECRUITING NEW MEMBERS
Each member of the Steering Committee will be asked to email the
Obama Cover Letter and the Bio for Art Nicoletti to all persons
listed in their computers whether these folks live in their own
city or not. In addition, their correspondence (email) will
strongly recommend that each recipient go to the website
(available - January 15, 2009) for Consent of the Governed to
download the Report to President Obama as well as have access to
the full range of activities, Board Members, etc.
- FUNCTION OF STEERING COMMITTEES
All Steering Committees will (1) Act as official representatives
of Consent of the Governed, on a non- partisan bases (2) lobby
elected and appointed officials, media, local power brokers,
etc. in support of its legislative agenda and (3) participate as
contributors and recipients of a national network of best ideas
and practices.
